How do I know if I have water damage?
Water damage can lead to warped floors, damaged walls and paint, and odors from mold growth starting to develop. Sometimes water damage starts in one part of your house, but it can travel into other areas unknowingly.
Water will travel along the path of least resistance, so a leak that starts up in a roof can end up in lower levels. As the water collects in those hard-to-see and hard-to-reach locations, it begins causing substantial damage. The best way to get accurate information is to use thermal imaging, which easily detects moisture behind walls or flooring.
How do I know if I have fire damage?
Charring, heat damage, soot, ash, and odor are clear signs of substantial fire damage. Even if your structure is intact after a fire, the carcinogens and toxins in the air will cause harm to occupants.
A residential fire is more harmful to occupants of a structure because unlike wildfires, the fire and smoke burned up appliances, electronics, paint, building material, textiles, and more. Always hire a professional to fully clean the environment, contents, and run air quality testing after a fire.
How do I know if I have mold?
Water damage is among the most common causes of mold. In Colorado we don’t have very humid conditions, which means unwanted water intrusion is a very common catalyst for mold growth. If you’ve recently had a water loss (such as a broken water line, frozen pipe burst, flooding, etc.) then you should make sure to begin drying within 24-48 hours to avoid mold growth.
If you already suspect mold is growing, a mold inspection will be an easy way to confirm the severity. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) suggests that you can clean a 3ft by 3ft space on your own with the proper processes.
